Limb

I have all but gone numb
To the jagged pain of knowing you

At one time it felt oh so sharp
But now I am accustomed to it

My removal is routine
Besides, I am long gone

Since the day I was born
You have been sawing me off

Cut through flesh and tendons
Bone and marrow

Bleed right out
Until your heart stops beating

And you call yourself an appendage
Even though I was the branch

I was the limb
